Governors

Pauline Bates our Chair of Governors visits regularly each week;

This week we discussed the recent recruitment for the Maths department, and support staff throughout school.  Some good appointments have been made, some starting on the 13th March 2017 others later in the academic year.

Once again we talked about the school staffing structure which needs to be dynamic and change according to the current needs of the school, we feel that this is the case and the leadership team addresses both needs and gaps when recruiting staff.

We went through The Spring Briefing Papers and the planner which is sent out to The Governing Body at the start of each year.
The Briefing papers have been emailed out to all Keyham Lodge/ Millgate governors.  The papers that affect us are; –
Paper 1 The Model Pay Policy, Paper 2 SFVS, Paper 4 Model Schools Complaints Policy, Paper 5 Request for Governors Information on The DfEs register of Educational Establishments and Paper 8 Children Missing Education, which is covered in the schools recently updated Safeguarding Policy.

I discussed the Schools Financial Value Standard with Suzanne the Finance Officer. The SFVS is a self-assessment which each school is required to complete every year. Once completed the SFVS must be signed by The Chair of Governors and submitted to the Local Authority by 31st of March each year. The SFVS will be on the agenda for the forthcoming Finance Meeting.

The previous week I had an informal catch up with Chris around the weeks success and challenges and then had lunch in the hall where I had chance to talk to 3 enthusiastic student teachers (SCITT students) who were spending a day at Keyham.

I met two of students Tyler and Isaac who are the new Student Ambassadors, one working on improving enrichment around school and the other acting as the student voice in the community, also chairing the student council meetings. They were very smartly dressed in blue shirts and striped ties.  They take their roles very seriously and explained to me how they were chosen to be ambassadors and their role as a connection between the students and the senior leadership team.  They have regular meeting with the Head and can express their views very freely.  Isaac said he felt his role was to help create a calm atmosphere to enable the other boys and girls to work and progress.

Chris and I audited the schools’ web sites to be sure that they are compliant with Ofsted guidelines as the website is the first port of call before an Ofsted school inspection.

Sharepoint; I now have access to The Governor’s web page for sharing information.    There have been quite a few teething problems but I am now adding files to it and hope to share it with all Governors in March. This will mean Governors having easy access to staff contact lists, minutes of FGB and Committee meetings and visit reports etc.
