Labour Market Information

What is the Labour Market Information?

The Labour Market Information (LMI), also known as the Job Market, refers to supply and demand for labour. This is where employees/workers provide the supply and the employers/companies provide the demand.

Out of a population of 355,200 in Leicester, 67%  are of working age. Keeping this in mind, parents, carers and students themselves should be very aware of the LMI and how they can support our students when they go forward and join the world of work. It also helps them to know what sectors are open and available for them in Leicester.

The main job sectors in the city of Leicester are:

  • Health
  • Education
  • Manufacturing
  • Business Administration and Support Services
  • Retail

And of the nearly 13,000 businesses in Leicester, almost 100% are micro, small or medium sized. Taking this into account, while most employers usually have various pre-requisites, most have said the most important skills needed by their employees are:

  • Communication
  • Technical
  • Problem Solving
  • Customer Care
  • IT
  • Soft Skills

If you would like to speak to a member of staff for more information on the Labour Market Information or careers, please call Sarie-Marais Crowcroft at Keyham Lodge School or visit the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership website on: https://llep.org.uk/skills/information-resources-for-education-professionals/district-snapshots/
