What’s in it for me?

This vocation is designed to bring design technology to life and to help you develop your practical skills and expand your creativity, imagination and independence. What’s more, you have the opportunity to indulge in product design and constructibility.

How could it help with my future?

Design technology can be applied to the problems encountered in construction, operation and maintenance of a product. The course is good preparation for progression to A Level in Design Technology, or a suitable college/ vocational course. Depending on the options you take, it could lead towards a wide range of careers in construction, electronics, games development, games technologies and more.

What are some of the things I’ll learn?

We want this to be an opportunity that will encourage you to consider a wide range of approaches to develop a practical skill through different materials, media and techniques.

It will help you gain knowledge and understanding of technologies are manufactured and processes today and in the past. You’ll experience different work practices and look at relevant processes and equipment too.

How will my work be assessed?

Each unit of work consists of a set of practical skills in which you have the opportunity to develop regularly within the workshop. At the end of each unit students will bring together their creativity through their investigations and manufacture a product. Taking into consideration precisions and equipment management/ use students will then be graded to reflect their final product.

What grades could I get?

You’ll get a grade for each unit from 9 to 1 and then an overall grade for the whole course, which will be from 9 to 1.
