Strike Action - Wednesday 1st February 2023
Dear Parents/Carers,
As many of you may be aware, the National Education Union (NEU) have confirmed that the strike proposed on the 1st February 2023 will be going ahead. The NEU has voted for national and regional strike action in the dispute over teachers’ pay, recruitment and retention.
The union has also stated that it is committed to continuing to negotiate with the government up until this date. Other teachers’ unions were unable to make the percentage needed to call for strike action on these dates.
We are unsure of the full impact the proposed strike will have on us at Keyham Lodge School. Staff are not required to share their intention to strike and a significant number of staff are members of the NEU.
As a leadership team, we have discussed reasonable steps to keep the school open and ensure the health and safety of all staff and pupils. Our setting, more than any in the city, relies on high levels of staffing and children having key staff available during points of crisis. Based on the information that has been voluntarily shared by NEU members, we have taken the difficult decision to partially close.
We will close on Wednesday 1st February to:
- Year 8
- Year 9
- Year 10
We will remain open on Wednesday 1st February for:
- Year 7
- Year 11
For information, the dates that further strike action is proposed to take place are:
- Wednesday 1st March
- Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th March
We have not yet, given that they are not confirmed, made a decision on steps required for these further dates. We will also have a better understanding of a school’s union response and impact when we consider future strike dates.
Yours sincerely
Vicky Edwards
