Physical Education and Sport

BTEC LEVEL 2 SPORT – BTEC Level 2 First Award in Sport provides a more practical, real world approach to learning alongside a theoretical background, to give learners the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare for employment.  

The new specification for 2018 contains two compulsory units:

Fitness for Sport and Exercise (Exam Based) and Practical Performance in Sport (Coursework Based)

The course also offers 4 optional units which are all coursework based:

Applying the Principles of Personal Training, The Mind and Sports Performance, The Sports Performer in Action and Leading Sports Activities.

120hrs = 4-6 LESSONS WEEKLY
BROAD EQUIVALENCE
1 GCSE (A* -  C)
As stated the students work continuously on assignments, which are marked when completed. Each assignment takes approximately 4 weeks to complete. Students gather evidence to complete each unit and then deliver it in many formats these could be:
Written assignments
Posters
Coaching sessions
Organising events
Recording
Presentations

Core PE lessons take place twice a week for each year group and lessons will enable students to familiarise themselves with some of the language used and requirements of the BTEC course prior to Key Stage 4. Core PE is based on developing well rounded performers in a range of activities and sports, as well as providing information about maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
