Strategy and Framework
It is our job to ensure that every child grows and flourishes here at Keyham Lodge School. We are a community special school for students from year 7 to year 11, who's main SEN is Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH), and we also have students with a diagnosis of high functioning autism. Every student at Keyham will have an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP) or a Statement of Special Educational Needs (SEN). We have very high expectations of our students and work closely with them to identify any specific needs and support they may require, both academically, socially, and in relation to their EHCP. Meeting these needs forms a fundamental part of their learning during their time with us, and their progress in this area is as rigorously planned as their academic programmes of study. Many of our young people have very complex needs, including children with ASD (autistic spectrum disorders), ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), attachment disorders, conduct disorders, oppositional and defiance disorders, learning difficulties, and learning disabilities. The school has 10.7% LAC (looked after students), and the number of students who are eligible for free school meals (58%) is significantly above the national average of 28.2%. In our cohort of students, 85% are eligible for Pupil Premium.
One of our key areas for a successful and positive transition at post-16 lies in our Complimentary Curriculum strategy. This is for our students who are educated offsite following various pathways that allow them to sample different learning environments into post-16 preparation and transition.
