Art & Design
Meet the Team:
Paige Weston-Keenan- Teacher & Head of Department
I began my journey in education at The Lancaster School for boys where I was a support member of staff working throughout many departments; as my roles developed my skills were based predominately in English, Art and the ACU Unit- a unit where students with behavioural difficulties where taught separately and more intense to support their progression and learning. I loved working in the ACU Unit and decided to look into SEN Schools. I first started at Keyham in October 2013 as a pastoral TA for the girls unit and quickly my skills were utilised in the Art department where I became a curriculum TA. I began teacher training in August 2014 and finally qualified in 2016 where I taught in both English and Art, I love the mix of the subject and it means I can keep up to date with other departments around the school. I have been teaching for a total of 4 years now and been at Keyham Lodge School for a total of 5 years- I love it! I have more recently became the Art TLR and am looking forward to developing the department as a team. My favourite artist to teach is Andy Warhol, I love his modern work and I feel the kids can really develop throughout their own art taking inspiration. My specialism in the art curriculum in Textiles.
Bilal Mahomed- Art & Design Teacher
I am an Art teacher at Keyham Lodge School. I have practiced Art throughout my education, under well renowned Creatives and scholars. I completed a foundation degree in Art and Design in 2014, during this course I had the opportunity to explore and experiment with graphic design, 3d modelling (digital and physical) and Fine art. I then went on to completing an Architecture degree in 2017 at De Monfort University. During the final year of my degree I was approached by my GCSE teacher and was asked to support a year 11Art class at my old school, Moat Community College. Helping these students reach their potential gave me joy, a sense of appreciation and self-fulfilment .It was at this point I wanted to pursue a career into teaching. After my degree, I worked as a teaching assistant at Judgemeadow Community College, where I was able to support in the Arts and work as an one to one mentor . I then successfully completed my teacher training in 2019 where I worked in two excellent OFSTED rated schools, Rusheymead and Soar Valley Community College. A one week placement during my teacher training at Keyham Lodge opened my eyes to a school environment and a teaching/learning style I had never witnessed before, this sparked my interest in working in a SEMH school. I am also a qualified youth worker and run a boxing club part time. I use the art of boxing as a catalyst to develop confidence and mental strength in our young people. I am able to combine and teach all my interests together here at Keyham Lodge, my aim is to instil relevant skill, knowledge and positive characteristics in our future generations.
Sarah Cornes - Curriculum Specialist Support
I graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 2002, after spending 5 years studying Fashion and Textiles. I moved on to work within many companies including Courtaulds Knitwear, Richard Roberts and even worked abroad in New York as a design assistant at American eagle. I began working in education in 2012 as a Textiles technician in a mainstream school before making the move to a SEBD school in 2017. The move was difficult and challenging but I wouldn’t change back. As well as working at Keyham Lodge, I run a small seamstress business in my spare time, altering clothes and making anything from handmade gifts to wedding dresses. I love using my interests to encourage the students to learn traditional and practical skills, which they can use later in life, as well as watch them grow in confidence as they develop their abilities.
